The
pace of life in the 21st century is fast, challenging and often
stressful for many of us. Most people don't seem to have enough
hours in the day to do everything they need to do, let alone do
the things they want to do.
The
British Government launched a work-life balance initiative in 2000
with the aim of achieving individual and corporate results without
the burn out. However work-life effectiveness is still a foreign
word for many people and despite recent law changes, flexible working
is only slowly being integrated into our working lives.
The
following paragraph is an extract from the 24-7 Work-Life Balance
survey published in March 2004, by Keele University:
56.2% of respondents felt their workload had increased during the
last 12 months.
62.2% of respondents felt their workload was out of control occasionally.
Of those who felt their workload was out of control most of the
time, 91% suffered from work-related ill health.
Of those who felt out of control occasionally, 72% had been ill.
The most common forms of support services were counselling services:
23.4% and stress management training: 14.3%. The success rates remain
fairly low at 16.3% and 10.9% respectively.
Do
YOU know...
...how to get more time for doing what you value most?
...what matters most?
...where your time goes?
...how to change some habits in order to make
more time?
...how to delegate?
...what good balance is for you and how to stay
balanced?
Many
people feel stressed by the amount pf pressure they are under and
they can feel quite helpless as it seems they have no control
over their time, their circumstances, their priorities.
"Time
is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only
you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let
other people spend it for you” Carl
Sandburg
When
people have a measure of control over when, where and how they work,
they enjoy much better quality of life and their organisations
benefit through increased productivity, less absenteeism, and satisfied
customers.
We
help employees meet the demands of work and still be able to make
more time for other things like family or interests, not only by
giving them a fresh overview of their situation, but by helping
them look at new options and possibilities. Through identifying
priorities, setting goals, having new strategies to reach those
goals, quality of life improves and people feel in control rather
than life, the job, their diary or the clock controlling them.
